In response to growing concerns regarding law and order, particularly amidst the repeated threats of protests and sit-ins by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad, the federal government of Pakistan has approved a major expansion of the Islamabad Police force.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has authorized the creation of 1,934 new police positions to strengthen the city’s security apparatus and address these escalating challenges.
According to a report, this strategic decision came after a comprehensive summary was submitted to the Prime Minister by the Interior Ministry.
The report outlined the urgent need to increase police deployment in order to ensure stability and security in Islamabad amid rising political tensions and public unrest.
The Management Services Wing of the Establishment Division also endorsed the proposal, underlining its necessity.
The newly approved positions will be distributed across various ranks, which include 24 inspectors (Grade-16), 50 sub-inspectors, 100 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), 180 head constables, and 1,580 constables.
This structured and hierarchical recruitment is expected to enhance law enforcement capabilities in different parts of the capital.
Following the Prime Minister’s approval, the Interior Ministry has received the official notification and is now in the process of securing final authorization from the Finance Division to initiate the recruitment process.
Once the financial clearances are obtained, the recruitment drive will proceed to fill these positions.
This latest expansion comes in addition to a previous allocation of 1,000 police positions, which were specifically designated for the protection of foreign nationals residing in Pakistan.
Most of these officers will be assigned to the Special Protection Unit (SPU), which focuses on ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens and other foreign residents.
The move is part of a broader effort by the federal government to prepare for any potential unrest while maintaining peace and order in the capital.
