ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a comprehensive traffic and diversion plan for the 8th Muharram procession scheduled for today (Friday), urging residents to follow designated routes to avoid congestion and delays.
According to ITP officials, the main mourning procession will start from Jamia Al-Murtaza in Sector G-9/4, moving along Rohtas Road, Tufail Niazi Road, Shan-ul-Haq Road in G-9/1, and the Police Quarters Service Road, before concluding at House No. 14 near Jamia Al-Sadiq in Sector G-9/2.
To ensure smooth proceedings and public safety, the following roads will be closed to general traffic during the procession:
- Rohtas Road (at Police Quarters turn)
- Tufail Niazi Road (towards G-10)
- Khurram Road
Chief Traffic Officer Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider advised motorists to use alternative routes, including Neelum Road, 9th Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Road, and the 7th Avenue Loop, to bypass affected areas.
The CTO also warned against illegal parking along the procession route, urging the public to use only designated parking areas and to fully cooperate with on-duty traffic personnel.
The ITP will remain deployed throughout the event, assisting with traffic management and ensuring the safe, respectful, and uninterrupted passage of the procession.
