Islamabad and Rawalpindi Return to Normalcy After PTI Rally

PTI Rally

Life in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi has returned to normal following the conclusion of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) public meeting held on Sunday.

The cities, which experienced temporary disruptions due to the political gathering, are now witnessing a resumption of daily activities as businesses, schools, and offices get back to their regular routines.

All educational institutions, along with government and private offices, have reopened, signaling a return to normalcy for residents and workers.

The hustle and bustle of daily life have been restored, and the flow of traffic has normalized, offering a sigh of relief to those who were impacted by the security measures put in place for the rally.

To ensure the security and safety of the public during the PTI rally, the local administration had placed containers on several major highways to control movement.

These containers, which caused some inconvenience for commuters, have now been removed, allowing traffic to move smoothly across the twin cities once more.

The blockade, however, became a point of contention between PTI workers and Islamabad police, as party supporters allegedly violated the No Objection Certificate (NOC) terms issued for holding the public meeting in Sangjani.

On Sunday, the situation became tense when PTI workers and police clashed after PTI supporters reportedly pelted stones at the police. The deputy commissioner had warned that if such activities continued, arrests would be made.

“Now the public gathering has become illegal; therefore, cases will be registered if the instructions of ending the rally are not followed,” the deputy commissioner stated. Following this, the district magistrate issued a notice to PTI Islamabad chapter Amir Mughal, citing violations of the code of conduct set in the NOC.

PTI had been strictly instructed to follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) outlined in the NOC, which allowed them to hold the rally from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The administration was clear that any non-compliance would lead to legal action against the party.

The PTI rally also resulted in the suspension of the Metro bus service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, adding to the inconvenience faced by daily commuters.

The district administration made this decision in light of the large crowds converging on Sangjani for the event, with PTI workers traveling from various parts of the country to attend.

In a separate incident, PTI workers, led by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Zartaj Gul, removed one of the containers placed by the administration on Margalla Avenue to block access.

A video of this act surfaced on social media, showing PTI workers maneuvering around the blockade. The administration had strategically placed four containers at intervals along Margalla Avenue to prevent movement; however, determined PTI workers managed to push one of the containers aside, creating a passage through the roadblock.

As the dust settles from the political rally, residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are gradually returning to their daily routines.

The streets are again filled with the usual traffic, and the city’s businesses and public services are operating at full capacity, marking the end of a brief period of disruption in the twin cities.
