ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has affirmed his intention to uphold the economic policies of the previous government while also taking necessary measures to enhance foreign investment.
During a meeting of various ministries in Islamabad, Kakar conveyed his commitment to promoting foreign investment in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The interim Prime Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the nation’s economic state and requested a detailed report on the reform process within each department.
Kakar further pledged that the interim administration would maintain the continuity of policies designed to rejuvenate the country’s economy, ensuring that projects for public welfare would persist without disruption.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring world-class facilities in the health and education sectors and instructed officials to implement reforms rigorously in the tax and revenue sectors to bolster tax collection.
The caretaker setup, according to Kakar, will prioritize deregulation and privatization as strategies to achieve economic stability.
Interim PM Accelerates Consultations For Cabinet Formation
Sources have informed that interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar is accelerating consultations for the establishment of the interim cabinet. The interim PM has opted to establish a compact cabinet and directly evaluate potential candidate profiles, as sources stated.
According to the sources, the caretaker prime minister told his friends, ” I don’t want to put more burden on the country suffering from economic problems.”
Furthermore, PM Kakar explicitly expressed his desire for minimal protocol, emphasizing a reluctance to generate unnecessary expenses or inflict hardships on the people. Additionally, it is probable that the position of the Ministry of Information will be entrusted to former information minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, the sources revealed.
The sources also informed that the interim PM retained Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister (PSPM) Dr. Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah, former advisor to PM Ahad Cheema, and joint secretary Mohib Ali. Meanwhile, according to reports, there is anticipation that Arshad Muneer Khan, promoted to grade-21, will assume the role of principal information officer (PIO).
Military Secretary (MS) to the Prime Minister Brigadier Tajdeed Mumtaz will continue in his current administrative capacity. The discussions for the caretaker federal cabinet will initiate today, with the potential for an announcement later this week, sources suggested.
