ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has released the results for 72 local body seats where by-elections were conducted on Sunday.
The independent candidates have secured more seats than any political party, winning 40 seats.
Meanwhile, PTI has emerged as the largest party by securing more seats than other parties.

Polling was conducted for vacant local government seats in 65 villages and neighborhoods across 21 districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, reports indicated that no one turned up to cast votes in KP’s Bara Tehsil.

Meanwhile, the polling process commenced at 8 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 5 p.m.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had established a total of 256 polling stations in the province, comprising 102 male voters, 89 female voters, and 65 joint stations. Among these stations, 156 were categorized as most sensitive, 84 as sensitive, and 13 as normal by the country’s top electoral authority.
Furthermore, in total, approximately 798 polling stations were set up in the province. The eligible voters included 208,964 males and 176,871 females, making a total of 385,835 voters across the districts where the elections took place.

However, in Bara, four candidates contested for farmers and youth council seats. A total of more than 2,600 voters exercised their right to vote in the area, and authorities set up two polling stations. Among the vacant seats in the area, 108 were available, yet only 10 candidates submitted their nomination papers for these positions. Many residents expressed frustration that despite local government elections, their fundamental issues remained unresolved. Among the 10 candidates, eight were nominated uncontested.
In VC-22 Kakakhel, Marikhel, local government elections were conducted for farmers’ councilor and youth councillor seats. This contest involved four candidates.

Additionally, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) established a monitoring center and complaint cell, which will remain operational until the completion of the election results. The center, established on August 26, is scheduled to operate until August 28.
