ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has penned a second open letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, reiterating concerns that Pakistan’s largest political party is being deliberately targeted.
Khan’s Concerns Over Military-Public Divide
In his letter, the former prime minister stated that his first letter was written with “sincere intentions” to mend the growing divide between the military and the public. However, he described the response as “irresponsible and unserious.”
“I am a former prime minister and the leader of the country’s most popular and largest political party. My entire life has been dedicated to earning global recognition for Pakistan,” Khan wrote.
He further emphasized that his 55 years of public life and 30 years of earnings are fully transparent, adding:
“My life and death are solely tied to Pakistan.”
Allegations of Election Manipulation and Political Engineering
Khan reiterated his concerns about the military’s image and the consequences of a widening gap between the public and the armed forces. Referring to his first letter, he claimed that 90% of Pakistanis would have supported the six points he had raised if consulted.
He accused intelligence agencies of rigging elections to install a puppet government, pressuring Parliament into passing the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and using draconian laws like the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) to silence dissent.
Other allegations included:
- Destabilizing the economy through political unrest
- State terrorism against PTI
- Weaponizing state institutions for political revenge rather than national service
“These actions are not only damaging public sentiment but also deepening the divide between the people and the military,” Khan wrote.
Criticism of Military Leadership
Currently incarcerated at Adiala Prison, Khan acknowledged the military as a crucial institution but claimed that “a few black sheep within it are harming its reputation.”
Previous Letter Called for Judicial Commission
In his first letter to General Munir, Khan had urged him to reconsider policies and called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the 2024 elections. His lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, stated that the six-point letter had addressed:
- Election fraud
- Alleged protection of money launderers
- The controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment
- The Al-Qadir Trust case verdict
Khan’s latest letter underscores continued tensions between PTI and the military, as the party challenges the legitimacy of the current government.
