Khan warns of street protests if SC Ruling Blocked:
Imran Khan, the Chairman of PTI, warned that if the ruling alliance attempted to block the implementation of the court’s decision to hold elections in Punjab on May 14, the people would take to the streets.
During a televised address to mark Yaum-i-Tashakkur (gratitude day) celebrations following the top court’s judgment that directed for general elections in Punjab, the former prime minister delivered the statement.
He broadcasted his speech from his Zaman Park residence through a satellite link on mega screens installed at 75 locations across the country, including 13 cities in Punjab.
Despite the rain, PTI supporters gathered at the Liberty roundabout in Lahore, where the main event took place.
They held party flags and wore PTI-themed headbands and scarves.
In his address to his supporters, the former prime minister called on the nation to wait for his call to ensure that the current rulers do not escape their responsibility of holding elections.
Imran Khan warned that failing to do so would result in history and future generations not pardoning the current generation for not taking action against those who undermine the rule of law.
Also, He accused the “Sicilian mafia” of opposing the Supreme Court’s decision, which overturned PTI’s decision to dissolve the National Assembly after opening courts at midnight.
Khan criticised Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari
Khan also criticized Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, who was sitting in London and Dubai, respectively, for making decisions about Pakistan’s fate.
He accused the current rulers of trying to divide the Supreme Court and create a rift between the PTI and the establishment that could repeat the events of 1971.
Mr. Khan questioned the economic and security stability that could be achieved by October to hold elections and emphasized that elections were the only way to take Pakistan out of the current situation.
He pledged to complete interviews and select candidates within 10 days and stated that the nation would not allow the incumbent rulers to escape holding elections.
