Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has firmly dismissed the possibility of any personal compromise or “give-and-take” deal, underscoring that any potential dialogue must be strictly in the interest of the nation.
This stance was shared by Senator Ali Zafar following a recent meeting with the detained PTI leader at Adiala Jail. Imran Khan, 71, has been imprisoned since August 2023, facing multiple charges, including corruption and terrorism, after being ousted from office via a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
According to Zafar, Khan made it clear that he has never sought leniency for himself and emphasized that had he wanted to, he could have done so much earlier. The statement comes amid calls from Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who urged the country’s powerful institutions to initiate a dialogue based on mutual concessions.
Responding to Aleema’s appeal, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described it as a “fragile effort” but indicated it could be considered for further examination.
Zafar noted that Imran Khan is open to talks aimed at fostering national unity and reiterated that the PTI leader’s door remains open for discussions with the establishment. Khan, however, warned against duplicity, asserting that “no one will be allowed to play on both sides of the wicket” and expressed his frustration with continued silence from influential quarters.
He also renewed his call for justice, urging prompt legal proceedings in all cases against him. “All I seek is justice,” Khan stated.
The former premier confirmed that PTI has initiated a protest campaign, with a comprehensive strategy expected to be announced within the next five to six days. He has instructed party leaders to begin preparations for the movement without delay.
