Imran Khan Allegedly Directed Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed, Says Ex-Army Official

Imran Khan

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his political associates allegedly gave orders to former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, according to Brigadier (retd) Haris Nawaz, who appeared on Spotlight with Munizae Jahangir.

Nawaz emphasized that there is concrete evidence to support these claims, and he stated, “He was implementing those orders.” He also noted that a strong military is essential for a strong federation, reinforcing the importance of the military’s role in national stability.

In a related development, the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), issued a statement confirming that Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed has been formally indicted on charges of engaging in political activities.

The ISPR detailed the accusations, which include violations of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing harm to individuals.

Additionally, the statement highlighted that Hameed is under investigation for his involvement in creating unrest, particularly in connection with the violent protests on May 9, 2023, following Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case. These protests resulted in widespread damage to public buildings and military installations.

Brigadier Nawaz also claimed that other military officers, including brigadiers and colonels, were involved in the political activities.

He pointed out that the law prohibits military officers from engaging in political activities for two years after their retirement, warning that any violation of this rule is a serious matter.

JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza, who appeared on the show via video link, commented that legal actions should not target specific individuals but should instead be based on principles.

He cautioned that selective justice would undermine the system, even though he personally disapproved of Faiz Hameed. Murtaza also referenced the trial of former President Pervez Musharraf, noting that Musharraf was acquitted despite not appearing in court.

PML-N leader Qamarul Zaman suggested that a military trial for Imran Khan might be possible if a link between the individual who incited attacks on sensitive buildings and Faiz Hameed could be established.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Umair Niazi expressed concerns that the government’s actions could create complications, particularly in terms of international perception and legal consequences.

He also revealed that PTI is working on filing an FIR related to the deaths of its party members in a November 26 incident, promising that the truth will come to light despite attempts to cover it up.
