Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar lauded Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa’s handling of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges’ letter during his appearance on a TV show.
Tarar expressed satisfaction with the response from bar councils regarding the chief justice’s verdict, underscoring the significance of security institutions and questioning their inaction in previous administrations. He lamented the historic absence of judicial outcry in similar circumstances and expressed hope for positive developments following the suo motu notice.
In discussing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s involvement, Tarar commended the premier’s prompt response and willingness to cooperate with the chief justice upon summons. However, he diverged from Rana Sanaullah’s stance regarding the judges’ position.
Tarar previously criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for allegedly attempting to politicize the Supreme Court’s suo motu action concerning the IHC judges’ letter. Responding to PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s remarks, Tarar cautioned against politicizing matters concerning judicial independence, urging for a non-political approach to such sensitive issues.
Tarar’s remarks on Samaa TV underscore a recognition of the delicate balance between the judiciary, executive, and political spheres in Pakistan. His acknowledgment of the importance of the judiciary’s independence while cautioning against political interference highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining the rule of law and democratic principles in the country.
Furthermore, Tarar’s emphasis on the role of security institutions reflects broader concerns about institutional integrity and the need for accountability across all branches of government. As Pakistan navigates complex political and legal landscapes, voices like Tarar’s play a crucial role in shaping public discourse and reinforcing the principles of justice and transparency.
