Audio Leaks Case
In a significant development concerning the audio leaks case, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken decisive action, dismissing objection petitions filed against Justice Babar Sattar.
The court categorically labeled these petitions as “malicious” and driven by “bad faith,” signaling its intolerance towards attempts to impede judicial proceedings.
Moreover, the IHC has issued preliminary contempt notices to the heads of key governmental agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
This proactive step underscores the court’s commitment to ensuring accountability for any potential breaches of legal standards or obstruction of justice in the case.
Furthermore, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 on the petitioners for lodging what it deemed as “frivolous” applications.
These petitions were evidently aimed at exerting pressure on the judge and disrupting the case proceedings. The court observed that the IB, FIA, PTA, and PEMRA collectively submitted applications under a unified scheme to sway the legal process.
Additionally, an order has been issued requiring the responsible officer who permitted the filing of the criminal petition to bear the financial burden personally.
This underscores the imperative of diligence and accountability in legal proceedings, ensuring that individuals are held responsible for their actions.
In a comprehensive 40-page order, Justice Babar Sattar emphasized that the objection pleas to halt the hearings were driven by malice and intended to undermine the judiciary’s autonomy.
The court reiterated its unwavering commitment to affording all parties a fair opportunity in the case pertaining to the alleged phone tapping of citizens, which has brought to light the federal government’s failure to safeguard constitutional rights.
