Nov 26 Protest Case
The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has granted bail to seven Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who were arrested in connection with the November 26 protest. The decision was announced after the court heard their post-arrest bail petitions, providing relief to the detained party activists.
Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka presided over the hearing and approved the bail pleas of all seven accused individuals.
The court directed their release upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs. 50,000 each. This decision overturned an earlier ruling by a lower court that had denied their bail requests.
During the hearing, a legal team comprising prominent lawyers, including Sardar Masroof, Murtaza Toori, and Aamna Ali, represented the accused. They presented arguments in favor of their clients, emphasizing their right to bail and challenging the charges against them.
The PTI workers had been booked in a case registered at the Ramna police station, linked to their alleged involvement in the protest.
Initially, Civil Judge Ahmad Shehzad Gondal had dismissed their bail petitions, leading the accused to seek legal recourse by filing an appeal against the decision.
The case was subsequently taken up by the sessions court, which reviewed the matter and ultimately ruled in favor of granting bail.
The bail approval marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the November 26 protest. PTI supporters and legal representatives have welcomed the decision, considering it a step toward justice for the arrested party workers.
The November 26 protest, organized by PTI, had led to multiple arrests as authorities sought to maintain law and order.
The party has consistently condemned the arrests, arguing that its workers were exercising their democratic right to peaceful assembly. With the latest ruling, the released individuals are expected to reunite with their families as legal proceedings continue.
This case highlights the legal challenges faced by political activists and the judicial process involved in addressing their arrests.
The decision of the sessions court is likely to have political and legal implications as PTI continues to navigate its position in the country’s political landscape.
