ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court said that the court will announce its decision today in the Toshakhana case conviction against Imran Khan.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) resumed the hearing on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s plea seeking the suspension of the sentence imposed by the trial court’s Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar in the Toshakhana case. The chief justice said that today the final decision will be announced regarding the Toshakhana case.
A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, started the hearing today. Arguments are expected from the lawyer of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Amjad Parvez, who was unable to appear before the court due to ill health during the last hearing on Friday.
Earlier, on the request of Khan’s assistant counsel, the court adjourned the hearing until Monday (today) and directed the ECP counsel to present arguments on that day. The court had also instructed the election authority to make alternative arrangements due to the lawyer’s unavailability.
During the last hearing, PTI lawyer Latif Khosa completed his arguments.
Earlier this month, a trial court sentenced Khan to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs100,000. Khan challenged the verdict and approached the IHC for his release and the suspension of the conviction. In the same case, the ECP had filed a private complaint against Khan.
