House Arrest for Imran Khan Considered if He Accepts Current Political Framework

The government may offer house arrest to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, provided he agrees not to challenge the existing political system. A coalition government source indicated that Khan could potentially be moved to Bani Gala from Adiala Jail if he ceases agitation against the current setup.

The government has emphasized that there will be no compromise regarding the events of May 9 and remains committed to continuing its tenure until 2029. While the PTI plans to present its demands at a January 2 meeting, the positions of both parties on major issues remain significantly different.

PTI seeks the release of its leaders, including Khan, and aims to return its founder to power. Conversely, the government insists that all individuals facing serious charges, including Khan, must clear their names through the judicial process.

Senator Irfan Siddiqi clarified that no proposal to move Khan to Bani Gala has been formally discussed among members of the government or allied committees. He highlighted the government’s stance that political prisoners during the PTI’s tenure were released only through judicial processes and not via executive orders.

The government committee aims to focus on national concerns, including a Charter of Economy, renewed Charter of Democracy, counter-terrorism strategies, and guidelines for political protests, rather than addressing party-specific issues.
