Historic Shortest Marriage: Kuwaiti Couple Divorces Three Minutes After Wedding

An unprecedented incident in Kuwait captured social media’s attention when a couple divorced just three minutes after getting married, marking it the shortest marriage in recorded history.

The event occurred in front of a judge who both officiated the wedding and granted the divorce. The story recently resurfaced and went viral on social media. The marriage ended abruptly when the bride tripped and fell right after the court ceremony. Instead of offering support, the groom insulted her by calling her a “fool.” Angered by this disrespect, the bride immediately demanded the judge annul the marriage, which he did, resulting in the marriage lasting only three minutes.

This incident has sparked a lively debate on social media about respect and tolerance in relationships. One user on X shared an experience of attending a wedding where the groom spent his entire speech mocking his bride, suggesting that the bride’s swift decision to end the marriage was justified given the groom’s derogatory remark. Another user commented, “Marriage without respect is doomed from the start,” reflecting a common sentiment among commenters who praised the bride for quickly exiting an abusive relationship.

This story is reminiscent of another short-lived marriage from 2004 in Britain, where a couple divorced 90 minutes after their wedding. Scott McKay and Victoria Anderson’s marriage ended after a confrontation at their reception. Scott’s mocking remarks about brides angered Victoria, leading to a physical altercation involving an ashtray. The situation escalated, resulting in police intervention and Scott’s subsequent arrest.
