Hezbollah reports over 70 Israeli soldiers have been killed in ongoing fighting

Hezbollah has reported that its fighters have killed over 70 Israeli troops during recent clashes, updating its previous statement of 55 fatalities. The group did not specify the timeframe for these casualties. In contrast, Israel has stated it has lost approximately 20 soldiers inside Lebanon since the start of its ground invasion, with an additional 30 killed in Hezbollah attacks on northern Israel.

In another incident, three civil defense workers were injured in an Israeli drone strike in northern Gaza. The civil defense group described the attack as a serious attempt to undermine humanitarian services in the region, emphasizing that their crews were directly targeted. Hezbollah also announced the use of new drones and precision missiles for the first time in their confrontations with Israeli forces. They claimed to have successfully pushed back Israeli troops in several border villages in southern Lebanon.

The group reported that it repelled Israeli attempts to infiltrate Lebanese territory by firing rockets and artillery. This occurred one month into the ongoing conflict, with Hezbollah stating they forced Israeli troops to retreat from the village of Aitarun after a failed infiltration attempt.

Meanwhile, a UN expert condemned Israel’s attacks on financial institutions in Lebanon, declaring them illegal under international humanitarian law. Ben Saul, the UN special rapporteur on the protection of human rights during counter-terrorism efforts, stated that such bombings blur the lines between civilian and military targets, putting non-combatants at risk. In Gaza, fresh Israeli airstrikes resulted in at least 11 Palestinian fatalities, according to paramedics. Strikes included an attack on a house in Jabalia, claiming six lives, and another assault on Al-Zahra School, which shelters thousands of displaced civilians. Further strikes in Rafah also resulted in additional casualties.
