Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated on Tuesday that the government is prepared to hold political talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), underscoring the importance of dialogue for strengthening the democratic system.
Addressing the National Assembly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader described the readiness for talks as a significant development. “The Prime Minister has made it clear that we are open to discussions on all issues,” he emphasized, inviting PTI’s negotiation committee to initiate the process.
Sanaullah stressed that democracy cannot function without meaningful engagement between the government and opposition. “For the system to move forward, both sides must come to the table for dialogue,” he asserted.
Reflecting on the country’s economic challenges, the PML-N stalwart credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and other stakeholders for successfully averting a potential default. However, he criticized PTI founder Imran Khan for exacerbating the economic crisis. “The PTI leadership dragged the country towards economic turmoil and continues to follow the same path,” Sanaullah remarked.
He questioned whether Imran Khan’s popularity remains on the rise despite his controversial actions. “This is the real question: Does his popularity still increase after all this?”
Sanaullah also accused PTI of attempting to sabotage the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement. “Efforts were made to derail the IMF deal by creating narratives that the country had defaulted,” he said. He further criticized PTI for attempting to spread chaos through calls for protests and unrest, particularly targeting Islamabad.
The government’s willingness for dialogue marks a shift in political dynamics, emphasizing reconciliation over conflict as Pakistan navigates its economic and democratic challenges.
