Senator Irfan Siddiqui was named by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday to serve as the government’s allied negotiation committee spokesperson.
Irfan Siddiqui was the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary leader in the Senate.
The appointment comes as part of efforts to foster communication between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).A few days ago, Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s advisor on political affairs, declared on Tuesday that the current government was prepared to engage in political negotiations with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The veteran of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) voiced his opinions during the National Assembly session, calling the discussions with the opponents a “extraordinary development.” “The prime minister has said that we [government] are ready to hold talks on every matter.”
Sanaullah asserted that: “The negotiation committee of the PTI should send message to the government for talks.”
“The democratic system cannot be run without the proceeding of the negotiations between the government and opposition,” he said.
