Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (PSX: SAZEW) has received the inaugural license for the production of electric rickshaws in Punjab. This significant development was marked by a special ceremony organized by the Punjab Transport Department in Lahore on Tuesday, as reported by Radio Pakistan.
This event signifies the official commencement of the electric rickshaw industry in the province, with Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressing optimism about a future dominated by all-electric vehicles in Pakistan. During the ceremony, he acknowledged the challenges faced by the transport department, including the implementation of axle load restrictions and driving license reforms.
Furthermore, the government announced its initiative to distribute 26,000 electric motorbikes and rickshaws to the public on an interest-free basis. At the same event, plans were disclosed to provide 10,000 electric bikes to students, facilitated by the Bank of Punjab, while another 10,000 electric rickshaws would be supported by Punjab Bank. Notably, 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes will be provided to special individuals without interest.
In a concerted effort to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, the chief minister underscored the superior quality of electric rickshaws and their role in combating pollution. The plans outlined include the provision of 10,000 electric rickshaws on a free-of-interest basis, along with the allocation of 2,000 three-wheeler bikes to special individuals. Civil secretariat employees, government and private sector women, as well as government employees, will also benefit from 2,000 electric bikes each, all on a free-of-interest basis, according to Radio Pakistan.
