German Consulate General in Karachi Resumes Operations for Non-EU Citizens

KARACHI: The German Consulate General in Karachi has resumed its regular operations for non-European Union citizens, according to a statement released on Friday.

“The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Karachi has resumed normal operations for non-EU citizens,” read the announcement shared on Facebook.

Earlier this month, the consulate had temporarily suspended services for non-EU citizens without specifying a reason, though those with already issued visas were allowed to collect them.

Germany remains a popular destination for international students, including those from Pakistan. Recently, Germany introduced an Opportunity Card to attract skilled workers from outside the EU, allowing them to seek work in the country for up to a year if they meet certain criteria.

Facebook groups reveal that numerous Pakistani applicants are currently awaiting visa interviews. The German Embassy in Pakistan reopened the student visa registration list for students holding university admission letters for the winter semester of 2024-2025 on May 21. There is a special online registration category titled “Registration to Apply for a Master’s Program,” exclusively for students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.7 or above, offering them prioritized consideration.

Applicants must provide several documents, including an application form, a biometric picture, passport and ID copies, an applicant declaration and appointment confirmation email, and information about any previous visa refusals. Additional documents include a curriculum vitae, an admission letter, an enrollment certificate, proof of sufficient language skills in the language of instruction, evidence of sufficient financial means, and health insurance.

Prospective students must also show evidence of a blocked account, a scholarship grant, or an official commitment issued by the immigration office in Germany.

For further details, applicants can refer to the official German consulate announcements and related documentation on visa requirements and costs.
