From VC to Auto-Rickshaw Driver: Unprecedented Transformation at Baha Uddin Zakariya University

Auto-Rickshaw Driver

In an extraordinary display of humility and a testament to the dignity of all forms of labor, Mr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi, Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University, has taken on a new role just days before his scheduled retirement.

The distinguished academic, also renowned for his literary accomplishments, drove an auto-rickshaw on the streets of Multan in a viral video that has taken social media by storm.

Mr. Kundi’s decision to become an auto-rickshaw driver was motivated by a desire to send a powerful message to the people of Pakistan.

He expressed that there should be no shame or hesitation in any job, regardless of one’s stature or position in society. He emphasized this as he prepared to step down from his esteemed role at the university, revealing that the institution does not provide pensions for its employees.

Facing the ongoing economic challenges in the country, Mr. Kundi, who has previously served as the Vice Chancellor of both Bahauddin Zakariya University and Gomal University, as well as being a member of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) executive board, recognized the growing financial struggles many Pakistanis are confronting.

His decision to embrace the life of an auto-rickshaw driver is a symbol of solidarity with those who work tirelessly to make ends meet.

Mr. Kundi’s illustrious career includes his retirement from Balochistan University in 2015, where he held the prestigious position of grade 22. However, his recent choice to trade his office for the driver’s seat of an auto-rickshaw has undoubtedly won him admiration and respect from all corners of society.

As Pakistan grapples with economic hardships, Mr. Kundi’s actions serve as a poignant reminder that every occupation deserves dignity and respect.
