Former PTI Leader Maleeka Ali Bokhari Expresses Gratitude to Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz for ECL Intervention

Islamabad: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Maleeka Ali Bokhari expressed her gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her prompt assistance in removing her name from the Exit Control List (ECL), allowing her to visit her critically ill sister in Australia.

Maleeka had appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for permission to visit her sister, who was battling a brain haemorrhage and on the verge of death. In response to her plea, Maryam Nawaz assured her through social media that she would address the matter with the relevant authorities.

“Let me speak to the concerned authorities, Maleeka. I hope you have filed a request in writing officially. May Allah bless your sister with good health,” Maryam tweeted.

Shortly afterward, Maleeka expressed her appreciation to Maryam for her timely intervention, confirming that her name had been removed from the no-fly list.

Maleeka’s request for permission to travel stemmed from her belief in her fundamental right to freedom of movement as a Pakistani citizen. She emphasized her sister’s critical condition, stating that she was fighting for her life and that she wished to be by her side during her ordeal. Maleeka highlighted the urgency of the situation, explaining that her sister was on life support and doctors had given a limited timeframe for a decision regarding her condition.

Maleeka underscored that her sister had no political affiliations and was simply a beloved family member in need of her presence. She appealed to the state authorities, including PM Shehbaz and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), to grant her permission to travel, citing both legal and ethical grounds for her request.

The assistance provided by Maryam Nawaz in facilitating Maleeka’s travel underscores the importance of humanitarian considerations in addressing individuals’ urgent needs, transcending political affiliations. Maleeka’s plight serves as a reminder of the significance of upholding fundamental rights, even in challenging circumstances.
