ISLAMABAD: Former intelligence head Lt. General (retired) Faiz Hameed informed the Faizabad sit-in commission that he engaged with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as per the government’s directives.
Lt. General (r) Hameed, who served as the DG Inter-Services Intelligence from 2019 to 2021, provided his statement before the commission on Thursday, according to sources. However, it’s unclear if he appeared before the commission in person.
Faiz Hameed refuted any suggestion of involvement in a conspiracy against the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz government in 2017.
The commission, chaired by Dr. Akhtar Ali Shah, is investigating the Faizabad sit-in, including inputs from former IG Tahir Alam and Khushal Khan.

This commission was established after the Supreme Court dismissed a government-convened inquiry committee regarding the 2017 sit-in.
Created in November, the commission was mandated by the SC to present its findings within two months.
During the sit-in, Hameed held a significant position within the ISI, coinciding with a period that paralyzed the twin cities and witnessed intense clashes between the TLP and law enforcement.
