On Sunday, former Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was arrested in Islamabad. The arrest was executed by the Islamabad Police under an FIR lodged on May 1, accusing Ilyas of forcing entry and firing at Centaurus Mall in Islamabad. Following the arrest, Ilyas was taken to the Margalla Police Station for further processing.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, a prominent political figure, served as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He is well-known for his contributions to the region’s political landscape and his involvement in various development projects. Before his tenure as Prime Minister, Ilyas held significant positions in both the political and business sectors, earning a reputation for his leadership and commitment to public service.
In response to the arrest, a spokesperson for Ilyas reported that the police scaled the walls of the former Prime Minister’s residence to carry out the arrest. The spokesperson condemned the actions of the police, stating that the sanctity of Ilyas’s home had been violated during the arrest operation. The spokesperson emphasized that such actions were not only disrespectful but also an infringement on the personal dignity and privacy of Ilyas and his family.
This incident has sparked discussions about the manner in which law enforcement agencies conduct arrests, especially of high-profile individuals. Supporters of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas have expressed their dismay and have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest. They argue that while the law must be upheld, it should be done with respect for personal and residential sanctity, ensuring that due process is followed without resorting to excessive measures.
The situation remains tense as the political and public response to Ilyas’s arrest continues to unfold.
