In an unfortunate incident, a foreign couple cycling through Pakistan after traversing ten countries fell victim to a robbery in Sindh.
The couple, identified as Kowalczyk Jakub Tomasz from Poland and Scantamburlo Marie Elisabeth from France, was reportedly mugged near the Sajawal bypass, where they were deprived of their mobile phones.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), a first-information report (FIR) has been registered on behalf of the state, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
An official from Sindh’s archaeology department revealed that the incident occurred at the historic Makli graveyard, a site housing nearly half a million tombs and graves of royals, Sufi saints, and other notable figures. The couple, who had spent Saturday night at the graveyard as guests of the provincial archaeology department, were robbed by muggers at the location.
Following the robbery, the tourists departed for Hyderabad.
This incident follows a similar episode in October, when foreign tourists in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) were robbed by individuals impersonating police officers. In that case, four tourists were looted of $1,080 (approximately Rs300,942). Frustrated by the deteriorating law and order situation, they left Pakistan the next day without filing a police complaint.
