ISLAMABAD: The counter-terrorism wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a summons to Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, regarding allegations of spreading hatred against the state.
According to the FIA notice, Aleema Khan is required to provide her statement at the FIA headquarters by February 16 at 11 am or face potential legal consequences. The notice specifies that an inquiry (No.4/24) has been initiated by an FIA sector officer based on the Ministry of Interior’s request. The inquiry revolves around charges of disseminating hateful material through a speech and engaging in anti-state activities.
Served under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the notice indicates that investigations are ongoing. Failure to comply with the summons would be interpreted as an admission of having nothing to say in her defense, leading to potential legal action against her. The summon notice has been sent to Aleema Khan at her residence in Lahore.
Previously, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had restrained the FIA from taking any action against Aleema Khan. Aleema’s legal counsel had filed two separate petitions seeking the suspension of the February 2 notice, requesting the presentation of evidence and records.
The counsel argued that the notice was seen on social media and not officially received by the petitioner. The court issued notices to the FIA for a reply and adjourned the hearing until the following week. The FIA cybercrime and counter-terrorism wing had issued separate notices in this case.
