In a unique and modern twist to the age-old tradition of marriage, a man from Larkana, Sindh, tied the knot with a Filipino girl named Mikona through a video call. The nikah ceremony occurred at a local hotel, with the presence of relatives, friends, and the groom’s family.
The groom, named Oshaq, explained that he had become friends with Mikona on Facebook a year ago. However, Mikona did not wish to travel to Pakistan, and he encountered difficulties in obtaining a Philippine visa without a nikah (marriage contract). Hence, they decided to proceed with an online nikah ceremony to fulfill the visa requirements.
This innovative approach to marriage reflects the adaptability of tradition to contemporary circumstances, as technology allows couples to navigate complex situations such as visa requirements and cross-border relationships.
Notably, this isn’t the first instance of such an online marriage, as a similar case involving an Indian man and a Pakistani woman taking their vows online happened previously. In this case, the wedding took place through virtual rituals, with both families connected via video conference to celebrate the marriage after the completion of the nikah.
