ISLAMABAD: Today, the grave of Fatima, the 10-year-old domestic worker who was reportedly subjected to fatal torture at the residence of a spiritual faith healer in Khairpur, was exhumed.
The Naushehro Feroze district and sessions court issued orders on Friday for the exhumation of Fatima Fariro’s grave. Today, a five-member medical board, along with the civil judge and judicial magistrate, arrived at the village of the deceased, Ali Muhammad Fariro, to carry out the exhumation.
At the location, the team performed a postmortem examination, gathered blood and body samples, and subsequently sent them to a laboratory. The doctors reported that the body was in a normal state. The authorities burried the body after carrying out the required procedures.
The medical board, chaired by the Nawabshah Civil Hospital medical superintendent and comprising a forensic expert, a professor of pathology, a senior medical officer, and other members, conducted these actions. Adequate police took the security measures during this process.
In the meantime, the police took into custody a dispenser after a viral video depicted the minor, Fatima, receiving treatment inside the pir’s haveli by him. The apprehended dispenser, Imtiaz Mirasi, is currently under interrogation as stated by the SSP.
Supreme Court Guidelines Breached in Fatima’s Case
Authorities initiated an investigation into the treatment of Fatima by a dispenser, despite the availability of Gambat and Ranipur hospitals, in contravention of the Supreme Court’s directives.
In disregard of the Supreme Court’s instructions, the Sindh Directorate General Health Services established a specialized medical board consisting entirely of male members. Their task was to exhume Fatima’s body and conduct an autopsy.
The Ranipur police registered a First Information Report under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) against the suspects, based on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
According to the complainant, an employee of Pir Asad Shah informed her about her daughter’s death and advised her to remove the body from the premises. She reported observing signs of torture on her daughter’s body before the burial took place in their ancestral graveyard near the village of Khanwah in Naushehro Feroze.
