Eight More Children Succumb to Pneumonia in Punjab Amid Rising Cases

According to the Punjab health department, at least eight more children succumbed to pneumonia in Punjab over the past 24 hours, a tragic outcome attributed to the intensifying cold weather conditions.

According to reports, an alarming 779 new cases of pneumonia in children were recorded. This surge brings the total number of cases in Pakistan’s largest province, Punjab, to a concerning 7,700.

The escalation in pneumonia cases has not only strained the healthcare system but has also resulted in severe shortages of medicine in Lahore, exacerbating the challenges faced by medical professionals in treating affected children.

In response to the escalating health crisis, the government has taken preventive measures. A ban on morning assemblies in schools has been imposed until January 31, with the objective of reducing the risk of children contracting pneumonia. This decision reflects the gravity of the situation and underscores the urgency to protect children from the harsh winter conditions.

Earlier, on January 10, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, had already extended winter vacations for students in classes prep and nursery, responding to the distressing news that 36 children had lost their lives to pneumonia in the first 10 days of January.

The continued efforts to address this health emergency highlight the severity of the situation and the commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the affected children.
