The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has projected that Eidul Azha is likely to be observed in Pakistan on June 7, 2025.
In a recent statement, the commission shared its forecast regarding the sighting of the crescent moon for Zilhaj 1446 AH. The prediction is based on scientific calculations, astronomical modeling, and advanced observational methods.
According to Suparco, the new moon for the Islamic month of Zilhaj is expected to be born on May 27, 2025, at 8:02 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
The analysis for the same evening, which coincides with the 29th of Ziqa’ad, indicates that the moon’s age at sunset will be about 11 hours and 34 minutes. However, the likelihood of moon sighting remains very low throughout the country due to a narrow 37-minute window between sunset and moonset, even if weather conditions are ideal.
Based on this data, Suparco anticipates that the first day of Zilhaj will fall on May 29, making Eidul Azha likely on June 7.
The commission also clarified that the final decision on the official start of Zilhaj—and thus the date of Eid—rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which considers eyewitness accounts and weather conditions.
Eidul Azha, observed on the 10th of Zilhaj, is one of the most significant religious events in the Islamic calendar, commemorating the completion of Hajj and the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
