ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, a drone attack struck a Russian airport close to the Estonian border, as revealed by the local governor. There are reports indicating damage to aircraft because of the attack.
Sharing a video on Telegram, regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov, present at the scene, captured a scene of massive fire accompanied by the sounds of explosions and sirens. He reported successfully thwarting a drone attack at Pskov airport, with authorities evaluating the damages and confirming no casualties.
With a distance of approximately 800 kilometers (almost 500 miles) from Ukraine’s border, Pskov shares its borders with EU member states Latvia and Estonia.
The defense ministry has not yet issued a statement, but reports indicate damage to four heavy transport planes.
All Wednesday flights at the airport were cancelled, Vedernikov stated, “until the nature of the possible damage to the runway is clarified.”
Reports indicate that emergency sevices have confirmed the damage to four Ilyushin Il-76 heavy transport planes. Additionally, referring to air traffic services, the closure of airspace above Moscow’s Vnukovo airport is also reported.
In May, the Pskov region had experienced drone targeting. In the past weeks, Moscow and various Russian areas have encountered a series of Ukrainian drone attacks, following Kyiv’s declaration this summer to shift the conflict back to Russia.
Black Sea ships: Russian Forces Destroy Four Ukrainian Ships Carrying Troops
Subsequently, Moscow announced that their forces had eliminated four Ukrainian vessels transporting around 50 troops in the Black Sea.
The Russian defence ministry wrote on Telegram that An aircraft “destroyed four high-speed military boats” around midnight Moscow time (2100 GMT).
The ministry further stated that the boats had been carrying “landing groups of Ukrainian special operations forces with a total number of up to 50 people.”
Exact details regarding the location in the Black Sea were not provided.
Following the collapse of a United Nations-brokered agreement aimed at ensuring secure passage for grain vessels in the Black Sea, both Ukraine and Russia escalated their activities in the region.
Subsequently, Russia targeted Ukraine’s port infrastructure both on the sea and along the Danube River, while Kyiv engaged Russian vessels within its waters and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.
In recent developments, Moscow’s defense ministry reported the destruction of a Ukrainian “reconnaissance boat” near Russian gas production facilities and a US-made speedboat carrying Ukrainian troops east of Snake Island. However, authorities did not reveal specific information.
