DIG Shariq’s “death”: Lahore police arrest a woman as it resolved mystery surrounding this case

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The woman who transported the late Deputy Inspector General Lahore Shariq Jamal to the hospital on Saturday has been apprehended by Lahore police.

According to her statement to the authorities, the suspect indicated that DIG Shariq’s health declined after consuming illicit substances.

She mentioned that despite providing water and a cold drink upon his request, his condition worsened, leading her to rush him to National Hospital DHA.

Initially, the deceased’s family declined to file a first information report (FIR) after receiving the body post-autopsy. Police mentioned that the preliminary autopsy reports pointed toward natural causes for DIG Shariq’s passing.

However, a comprehensive forensic report was awaited for more detailed insights into the circumstances surrounding his demise.

DIG Shariq, a father of one, had been living independently in an apartment after separating from his wife.

The investigation commenced after the discovery of DIG Shariq’s lifeless body at his DHA Lahore residence, under mysterious circumstances, during the early hours. Servants, sent away by the deceased, found him deceased in his bedroom.

Having served in roles such as DIG Traffic and DIG Railways, DIG Shariq was presently working as Officer on Special Duty, having completed his course.
