Denial from Ex-Cop: No Collaboration with Other Institutions in TLP Operation

TLP Operation

Former SSP Operations Islamabad, Sajid Kiani, provided a comprehensive statement on Tuesday before the inquiry commission tasked with investigating the Faizabad sit-in. In his testimony, Kiani categorically denied any external interference from other institutions in the operation conducted against the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), according to reliable sources.

Kiani, who held the position of SSP Operations in Islamabad in 2017, is presently serving as the joint director of the Intelligence Bureau, as per the sources. During the three-hour testimony, he addressed various aspects of the operation against TLP and vehemently refuted claims suggesting the involvement of other institutions in the said operation.

Simultaneously, rumors began circulating that Faiz Hameed, the former chief of the country’s premier intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), might be summoned by the commission in the upcoming week. Reports indicated that the commission had prepared a detailed questionnaire for Hameed, focusing on his role and insights related to the 2017 sit-in in Islamabad.

The inquiry commission, led by retired IG Akhtar Ali Shah, was established in response to the Supreme Court’s rejection of the government’s fact-finding committee report on the Faizabad sit-in. The commission holds the authority to summon individuals of high rank, including ex-army chiefs, prime ministers, and chief justices, as emphasized by Justice Qazi Faez on November 15.

The ongoing proceedings seek to unravel the complexities surrounding the 2017 sit-in and shed light on the circumstances leading to the need for the operation against TLP. Overall, Kiani’s testimony stands firm, emphasizing the absence of external interference in the TLP operation during the Faizabad sit-in.
