In a forceful address to the National Assembly on Saturday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called on the Muslim world to unite in the wake of Israel’s recent attacks on Iran, warning that failure to act could have grave consequences for the entire region.
Denouncing the escalation, Asif described the situation as an open war between Israel and Iran, asserting that Pakistan cannot remain indifferent to such developments, especially given its close historical, cultural, and geographic ties with Iran.
“Israel has continuously targeted Yemen, Palestine, and now Iran,” he said. “If the Muslim world fails to rise now, we’ll all be next.” He stressed the urgent need for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency session and deliver a unified, decisive response.
Asif also pointed out that growing global criticism of Israel is not confined to Muslim-majority nations. “Even in the West, public opinion is shifting, but sadly, Muslim leadership remains inactive,” he lamented.
Turning his attention to India, Asif recalled its failed military action against Pakistan, referencing the capture of Indian pilot Abhinandan as an example of Pakistan’s military strength and resilience. He credited the Pakistan Air Force with restoring national pride during that confrontation and expressed regret over the lack of political resolve shown by leadership at the time.
He further condemned Israeli aggression, stating that Iranian military sites had been targeted and key leaders martyred, alleging the involvement of powerful international backers in these operations.
The defence minister urged Muslim countries maintaining relations with Israel to sever ties, declaring, “Israel’s hands are stained with Muslim blood.”
Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast position on not recognising Israel, stating, “Our policy has not changed, and those of Pakistani origin who travel there do not represent our national stance.”
He pledged continued support for Iran on all international forums, reiterating that Pakistan stands in full solidarity with its neighbour.
In closing remarks, Asif also commended the finance minister’s recent budget presentation, expressing hope that the economic difficulties faced by citizens will ease in the months ahead.
