Karachi / ISLAMABAD: Customs authorities have conducted a significant operation at Allama Iqbal International Airport. During this operation, they apprehended a suspect involved in smuggling cancer drugs, and he was accompanied by an accomplice.
Customs officials report that they seized a package. The package was valued at an estimated Rs 200 million. It was taken from the possession of the alleged smuggler, Naveed Shahzad. The package contained cancer medications.
They say that Naveed Shahzad illicitly imported these medicines. He imported them from Istanbul to Lahore. This situation reflects a worrying trend in the unlawful pharmaceutical trade.
Authorities from the customs department have launched an investigation into both individuals involved. They have also taken custody of all the drugs.
The investigation uncovered the unsettling revelation. The revelation states that individuals were electronically transferring bribes. Further, these transfers were happening through the mobile phones of the apprehended suspects.
The confiscated cancer medications hold significant monetary value. Additionally, they give rise to concerns about their safety and effectiveness. This is because the importation of unregulated products can pose serious health hazards to consumers.
