QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: In a tragic incident in Quetta, 17-year-old Hira Anwar, who had recently returned from the U.S., was fatally shot for making TikTok videos.
Police have detained her father, uncle, and maternal uncle on suspicion and launched an investigation into the case.
Hira was attacked at the entrance of her home on Balochi Street, where she succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Authorities swiftly responded, transporting her body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination before releasing it to her family.
Preliminary findings revealed that Hira held American citizenship and had arrived in Pakistan with her parents just days before the incident.
According to police sources, Hira had been repeatedly warned against creating and posting TikTok videos, but she refused to comply. This reportedly angered her father and other male relatives.
SHO Babar Baloch of Gwalmandi confirmed that the suspects have confessed. He stated that Hira’s father, Inwar-ul-Haq, had been living in the U.S. with his family before recently returning to Quetta. Allegedly, he conspired with his brother-in-law, Tayeb Ali, to carry out the murder.
Reports suggest that Hira was lured outside, where her maternal uncle shot her before retreating indoors.
Following the crime, police arrested Inwar-ul-Haq, along with the other suspects, for their alleged involvement.
SHO Babar Baloch added that further details will emerge as the investigation continues. The case has been referred to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing for a comprehensive inquiry.
