ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in the federal capital on Thursday summoned former president Asif Ali Zardari and others in Park Lane reference.
The case was presided over by Accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir, during which the counsel argued that at the time of the agreement, Asif Zardari was not serving as the director of Park Lane.
In response to this argument, the court decided to summon former President Asif Zardari and other individuals involved in the Park Lane reference, and the hearing has been adjourned until December 20.
In a prior development, another accountability court in the federal capital summoned former President Asif Ali Zardari and others in the Thatta Water Supply project case. Accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir oversaw the case and issued notices for the former president and other individuals to appear before the Islamabad bureau on December 18.
In January, an accountability court in the federal capital returned a corruption reference against former President and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). This decision was made by Accountability court Judge Rana Nasir Javed after considering arguments from both sides. The judge explained that the corruption reference did not fall under the jurisdiction of the accountability court due to amendments in the NAB laws.
The Park Lane case involves Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, and other accused facing charges related to corruption through fake bank accounts and misappropriation of financial resources in connection with Park Lane Private Limited and Parthenon (Pvt) Limited. The Park Lane case is being investigated under various sections of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010. It pertains to Zardari’s alleged involvement in a loan and its misappropriation by Parthenon Private Limited, where a loan worth Rs 1.5 billion was acquired from a bank and then transferred to the company’s account in a private bank.
