LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed health officials to formulate an operational plan to combat the rising cases of AIDS in Taunsa Tehsil, following concerns over an outbreak in the Dera Ghazi Khan region.
During a special meeting, experts analyzed potential causes of the outbreak, leading to the formation of a joint mission comprising representatives from UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Health and Population Department.
This mission will conduct a detailed investigation from April 7 to 14, tracing the medical history of affected children and providing actionable recommendations for controlling and preventing the disease.
Comprehensive Screening and Treatment Measures
To ensure a thorough response, Chief Minister Nawaz has ordered household screenings in the affected areas to assess the extent of the outbreak.
Specialized treatment centers for AIDS patients will be established at Taunsa Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and other medical facilities, with a commitment to providing free treatment for affected children.
Additionally, CM Nawaz has directed officials to identify the root causes of the outbreak and hold those responsible accountable. She emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for any negligence in the treatment and care of infected children.
The Punjab government’s swift intervention aims to contain the outbreak and implement long-term strategies to prevent future health crises.
