CM Gandapur, Top PTI Figures Face Arrest Warrants Over October Protest

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for four senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, in connection with the October 5, 2023 protest in Lahore.

The warrants were issued following the leaders’ repeated failure to appear in court for a case involving alleged violence against police officers during the PTI-led demonstration. The request for the warrants was submitted by the Mushtaq Gate police, who are investigating the incident.

According to ATC Administrative Judge Manzoor Ali Gill, the accused had been served multiple notices but consistently failed to cooperate with the investigation. As a result, the court ordered the immediate arrest and production of the individuals to ensure the case proceeds without further delay.

In addition to Gandapur, the warrants have been issued for PTI leaders Hammad Azhar, Saeed Sindhu, and Rana Shahbaz Ahmad. Authorities allege the four played key roles in the unrest that led to clashes with law enforcement during the protest.

The case is registered at the Mushtaq Gate police station, and a new date for the next court hearing is expected to be announced soon.
