Nominations for National Assembly and Senate Members Submitted to Supreme Court
Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq forwarded parliamentary party nominations to the Supreme Judicial Council for Judicial Commission membership regarding judge appointments in the superior judiciary.
Following discussions with Senate Chairman and parliamentary leaders, Sadiq’s nominations included both National Assembly and Senate members. PTI’s Omar Ayub and PML-N’s Sheikh Aftab were chosen from the National Assembly, while senators Farooq Naik and Shibli Faraz will represent the Senate. Roshan Khursheed Bharucha has also been appointed on a reserved seat for women.
These nominations, submitted to the Judicial Commission secretary, adhere to the 26th Amendment, which permits five parliamentary members on the Judicial Commission, equally representing government and opposition. The Commission is empowered to appoint judges for the Supreme Court, high courts, and the Federal Shariat Court. The Supreme Court has confirmed the receipt of these nominations.
A spokesperson for the National Assembly stated that Speaker Ayaz Sadiq submitted the nominations after consultations with the Senate chairman and parliamentary leaders.
