CJ LHC Predicts End to Establishment Interference in Judiciary Soon

Establishment Interference

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad publicly denounced interference in judicial affairs by “institutions,” revealing he had received numerous complaints and letters alleging such meddling, both written and verbal.

Speaking at an event in Rawalpindi, Justice Ahmad expressed optimism that this interference would soon cease, citing his faith and personal experiences as grounds for confidence.

He urged fellow judges to confront such pressures with bravery, asserting that justice would prevail despite challenges.

Highlighting a specific incident involving a judge from the Sargodha Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) who accused the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of interference, Justice Ahmad quoted the judge’s resolve to confront any challenges fearlessly in defense of justice.

Addressing his judicial colleagues, Justice Ahmad urged them to steadfastly resist blackmail or intimidation attempts, stressing the imperative of upholding their duty to justice without compromise.

He commended former LHC Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry for his courage in confronting a military dictator and recalled the lawyers’ movement that led to Chaudhry’s reinstatement.

Justice Ahmad underscored the movement’s pivotal role in promoting civilian governance and permanently closing the chapter on martial law.

Furthermore, the Chief Justice called upon lawmakers to fulfill their roles in advancing the nation, reminding them of their temporary positions and responsibility to serve the country’s interests.

In conclusion, Justice Ahmad’s remarks underscored a commitment to judicial independence and resilience against external pressures, emphasizing the judiciary’s pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all citizens of Pakistan.

His statements reflect a call for unwavering dedication to the principles of justice and integrity within the judiciary.
