Supreme Judicial Council
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has taken strides to improve the functioning of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), aiming to address concerns and streamline operations. During a workshop at the apex court, CJP Isa highlighted the ongoing efforts to manage the SJC in a “proper manner,” acknowledging that completing tasks in a timely manner could reduce complaints.
Speaking on the significance of public awareness, Justice Isa emphasized that institutions funded by taxpayers should be transparent, and access to information is essential for accountability. He noted that the Supreme Court itself subjects to accountability before the public, and he highlighted the importance of information leading to accountability.
CJP Isa mentioned convening a full court meeting shortly after assuming office, an event that had not occurred for four years. During this meeting, the decision to support the live broadcast of Supreme Court proceedings was endorsed by all judges. The objective is to prevent misconceptions and unfounded allegations by providing transparency through live broadcasts.
Under Justice Isa’s leadership, significant progress has been made in case resolution, with over 5,000 cases addressed during his tenure. Notably, 504 cases were resolved in the past week alone. The chief justice expressed a commitment to concluding as many cases as possible within the constraints of time.
Reflecting on the initiatives implemented during his term, CJP Isa highlighted the removal of barriers at the Supreme Court and the construction of a monument dedicated to fundamental rights at the site. Additionally, he noted the convening of a long-overdue meeting of the Federal Judicial Academy, emphasizing the importance of such gatherings.
CJP Isa recounted an incident where a citizen inquired about the number of employees in the apex court. The court promptly provided the details, reaffirming the public’s right to access information. These initiatives underscore the chief justice’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and public engagement in the judicial system.
