ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is going to announce today the date for Eidul Azha in Pakistan. The committee is holding its crucial meeting in Islamabad today for moon sighting, marking the beginning of Zil Hajj 1446 Hijri and determining the official date for Eid ul Adha in Pakistan.
The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman. In addition, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will convene at their respective regional headquarters for moon sighting efforts.
Eid ul Adha, which is observed on the 10th day of Zil Hajj, coincides with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Based on astronomical predictions from the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Eid ul Adha is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7.
According to SUPARCO, the first day of Zil Hajj is likely to be Thursday, May 29—contingent upon the official moon sighting. The agency stated that the new moon will be born on May 27 at 8:02 AM; however, its age by sunset on the same day will be just 11 hours and 34 minutes, making its visibility across the country extremely unlikely.
Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, the Emirates Astronomy Society has projected Eid ul Adha to be observed on Friday, June 6.
Eid ul Adha—one of the two major Islamic festivals along with Eid ul Fitr—is traditionally celebrated over three days, marked by prayers, communal gatherings, and the ritual sacrifice commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion.
