Caretaker Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the government would announce today (Aug 8) the name of the caretaker prime minister.
He also said that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) has approved the new census. It requires the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to perform a fresh delimitation of constituencies.

Therefore, this process can potentially lead to a delay in the general elections until March 2024.
If the delimitation of constituencies takes place, the elections would be scheduled for the third week of February or the first week of March.
The ECP is obligated to conduct the upcoming general elections, previously set for October or November 2923.
Sanaullah also referred to the CCI decision, emphasizing that performing a fresh delimitation is a constitutional duty of the ECP.
According to the Constitution, the ECP could not hold two general elections using the same census. Additionally, the Constitution mandates a fresh delimitation of constituencies following the official notification of the new census results.
Sanaullah acknowledged that political parties had raised various objections to the results of the 2023 census.
He said that the PDM-led government has announced the premature dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9.
Nawaz Sharif approves the name of Caretaker Prime Minister
Meanwhile, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has finalized the name for the caretaker prime minister.
He consulted prominent political figures, including Asif Ali Zardari and Fazlur Rehman, to discuss the matter. Recently, Nawaz Sharif also consulted with his younger brother and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on this crucial issue.
The next step involves PM Shahbaz Sharif’s meeting with the opposition leader to announce the name caretaker prime minister.
Notably, Shahbaz Sharif will continue to serve as the PM until the ECP officially announces the name of interim Prime Minister.
