Renowned Pakistani actor Talat Hussain passed away in Karachi on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness, as confirmed by his daughter, Tazeen Hussain. He was 83 years old.
Hussain had been receiving medical treatment at a private hospital. He leaves behind two daughters and one son.
Born on September 18, 1940, Talat Hussain was a distinguished figure in the Pakistani entertainment industry. Pakistan Television (PTV) noted his birthdate in a social media post, highlighting his educational background at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His career in the arts flourished in the 1960s.
Throughout his illustrious career, Hussain was known for his memorable performances in popular television dramas such as “Bandish,” “Karvaan,” “Hawain,” and “Parachaiyan.” He also left his mark in the film industry with notable works including “Chirag Jalta Raha,” “Gumnaam,” “Baaghi,” and “Actor in Law.”
Confirming the sad news, Arts Council of Pakistan President Mohammad Ahmed Shah shared his condolences, reminiscing about his extensive professional relationship with Hussain spanning over 40 years. Shah described Hussain as a mentor and elder brother, noting his significant contributions not only as an actor but also as a literary figure.
Shah highlighted Hussain’s dedication to literature, mentioning that he was actively working on a novel. The veteran actor’s commitment to nurturing young talent in the industry and preserving his legacy was also commended.
Recognized for his multifaceted talents, Hussain’s passing has left a void in Pakistan’s entertainment landscape and literary circles. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences, acknowledging Hussain’s legendary status and his invaluable contributions to the arts.
