KARACHI: The Federal Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday acquitted Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani in three cases linked to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) corruption scandal.
Gilani appeared in person before the court in Karachi, where the judge announced that no charges against him had been proven, granting him an honourable acquittal.
During the proceedings, the judge humorously asked Gilani which prison he would prefer — Karachi, Multan, or Islamabad — to which the Senate chairman replied, “Prison is nothing new for us. If you wish, you may even sentence me to death.” His remark drew a smile from the presiding judge.
Gilani further added that he had no fear of imprisonment, emphasizing his family’s long history of political struggles.
The court also noted that several witnesses who had testified against Gilani were now facing corruption charges themselves.
Along with Gilani, the court acquitted 40 other accused individuals, bringing an end to the long-running TDAP corruption trial.
