QUETTA: On Monday, a tragic attack on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway near Mastung resulted in the death of Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Zakir Hussain Baloch and left four others injured.
According to officials, the assault occurred as DC Baloch was traveling to Quetta with the Panjgur Municipal Committee Chairman, Abdul Malik Baloch. The official vehicle came under fire from unknown assailants near Khadkocha in Mastung.
Security officials reported that approximately 15 armed men had blocked the highway and were conducting vehicle checks in the area.
When they attempted to intercept DC Baloch’s vehicle, he attempted to evade the ambush. The attackers responded by opening fire on the speeding vehicle.
The gunfire severely injured two officials, who were subsequently transported to the Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Memorial Hospital in Mastung. Despite medical efforts, DC Baloch succumbed to his injuries.
According to Dr. Saeed Ahmed, the hospital’s chief executive, Baloch suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his chest and stomach, leading to internal bleeding that ultimately caused his death.
Abdul Malik Baloch, who also sustained multiple bullet injuries, was transferred to Quetta for further medical treatment.
Abdul Malik is the younger brother of Rehmat Baloch, president of the National Party’s Balochistan chapter.
In response to the attack, security forces have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the perpetrators. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
In a separate incident, a grenade attack in Satellite Town, Quetta, resulted in the deaths of eight people, including a woman.
The grenade was hurled at a police patrol vehicle in the Chalo-Barvri area by unidentified armed men on a motorcycle.
Fortunately, the police vehicle itself was not damaged in the explosion. The injured individuals were rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
Another grenade attack was reported later on Monday in the Sariab area of Quetta. Unknown motorcyclists targeted the Government Girls College in Sariab Mills, causing damage to the college’s windows and nearby buildings. No injuries were reported in this second incident.
