LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the “Dhi Rani Programme ” to support underprivileged communities. Under this initiative, each couple will receive approximately Rs100,000 in cash and dowry like essential furniture, clothing, and other household items.
The rising inflation and increasing poverty have made marriage a significant financial burden for low-income families. The traditional practice of dowry further adds to the pressure on the bride’s family.
During the inauguration of the Punjab Dhi Rani Programme, CM Maryam announced, “Each newly-married couple will receive Rs100,000 as wedding support through an ATM.”
She added, “Meals will be provided for up to 20 guests for each couple.”
According to a statement from the provincial government, in addition to the financial assistance, newlyweds will receive necessary furniture, kitchenware, clothing, and other essential items.
The statement also noted that applications for the Punjab Dhi Rani Programme are now accepted online at cmp.punjab.gov.pk. A dedicated helpline (1312) has been set up to assist applicants.
The chief minister emphasized that special teams will conduct home visits to verify applicants, ensuring transparency in the program.
