ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced a nationwide protest scheduled for March 2, denouncing what they claim to be widespread electoral manipulation during the 2024 general elections.
Secretary General Omar Ayub, also the party’s prime ministerial candidate, expressed dismay over what he described as extensive rigging in the polls during a press briefing following a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Ayub asserted that PTI, alongside other political entities, would stage protests across the country to challenge the alleged electoral irregularities.
Ayub lamented the apparent theft of PTI’s seats through fraudulent means, emphasizing that the electorate had given their mandate to the former PTI chairman. He highlighted the possession of Form-45s by successful PTI-supported candidates, indicating evidence of foul play.
Despite Khan’s current imprisonment, Ayub conveyed confidence in the party’s position, asserting their intention to pursue legal avenues for justice, both in courts and assemblies, characterizing their struggle as one for truth.
Furthermore, Ayub disclosed PTI’s nominations for the roles of National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker, naming Amir Dogar and Junaid Khan respectively. Meanwhile, PTI central leader Sher Afzal Marwat, speaking outside Adiala jail, revealed Imran Khan’s directive for nationwide protests on March 2, following discussions on internal party matters during their meeting.
Marwat also confirmed PTI’s elected members’ scheduled oath-taking on February 29 and announced Khan’s intention to correspond with the International Monetary Fund in alignment with the party’s agenda.
The recent general elections in Pakistan, marked as the largest in the nation’s history, yielded unexpected outcomes, as no single political faction secured a clear majority. Despite PTI’s notable success in securing the highest number of elected candidates, the party, founded by Imran Khan, expressed dissatisfaction with the results, alleging electoral malpractice.
Reiterating their claim to majority representation, PTI plans to stage peaceful nationwide protests to challenge the perceived rigging.
