ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi sanctioned the appointment of three judges within the superior judiciary.
Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, has been selected to serve in the Supreme Court under Article 175-A of the Constitution.
Additionally, the president endorsed the appointment of the most senior judge, Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, as the interim Chief Justice of the BHC, as per Article 196 of the Constitution.
President Alvi also designated the most senior judge of the Lahore High Court, Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan, as the chief justice under Article 175 (A) of the Constitution.
This appointment followed the retirement of former LHC CJ Muhammad Ameer Bhatti on Thursday, having reached the age of superannuation.
A formal farewell was organized in honor of the outgoing chief justice at the Judges Lounge, attended by Chief Justice-designate Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and other judges from the principal seat.
Meanwhile, Justice Khan is scheduled to take his oath as chief justice on March 8 (Friday) at a ceremony to be held at the Governor House.
